Dale W. Sickles
The owner of Burgh Construction LLC, Dale W. Sickles, has been involved with construction projects for nearly 50 years. Starting with large scale renovations at the early age of 16 led to the construction of single family homes, townhomes, and commercial projects and renovations spanning over 5 decades. Residential and commercial developments are included in his portfolio of accomplishments. He is hands-on, personally engaged in each project, and enjoys the opportunity to work with his clients to create and build their vision. His family is heavily engaged in all facets of the construction business ranging from residential and commercial developers, to steel fabricators, to the construction of office buildings, arenas, and FedEx Distribution Centers.
Dale shared his love of construction with the love of medicine in a teaching and research career at the Medical College of Georgia from 1978 to 2012. He rose up the ranks from Instructor to Full Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Director of Histology, and the Phase 1 Medical School Coordinator. He served on the committee to design the new Medical Education Commons building on the Augusta University downtown campus. He published numerous scientific articles in the field of Neurotoxicology, was the Principal Investigator on multiple National Institutes of Health research grants, and was appointed to the Scientific Review Board of the Environmental Protection Agency. He received Educator of the Year awards throughout his career while educating over 7000 medical students.
Despite his research and teaching successes, he simultaneously ran the family-owned business, GWS Associates, which developed a diverse array of residential and commercial properties. He also created and ran Woodberry LLC; developing and building a luxury townhome community as well as the construction and renovation of single family homes. He shared his energy and passion for helping others by coaching baseball and soccer teams for the Martinez-Evans Little League and Columbia County. He served as President of the Evans High School Athletic Boosters and is on the Board of Trustees at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Retiring from the Medical College in 2012, he returned, full- time, to his love of building by opening a new construction company, Burgh Construction LLC, and functions as the primary contact for Burgh Custom Homes, the residential division of the business. The company name is a shortened version of his hometown Pittsburgh, but also honors the development of burghs (towns), which he feels strongly about. Dale seeks to fill the need of high quality home construction with a personal, family-oriented touch.
The most recent focus of Burgh Custom Homes has been on high quality construction in the 2600-3200 square foot range in the community of Grenelefe Park. The business has recently expanded to include a commercial division, which is being primarily administrated by his son-in-law, David G. Lewis.
